At the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, The 24 Hour Plays got immediately to work adapting our time-sensitive theater model for a socially distanced landscape. On March 17, 2020, the first round of The 24 Hour Plays Viral Monologues went live on social media, with twenty brand new monologues written and performed in just 24 hours.

Intended as a one-time only production, this new version of The 24 Hour Plays instead continued throughout lockdown, providing the theater community with free access to new work during an enormously challenging time. Over the following three years, the program would spawn 44 cycles with more than 1,000 participating artists.

The 24 Hour Plays Viral Monologues were The first round of The 24 Hour Plays Viral Monologues was published by Methuen Drama, and the series was archived by the library of congress. Our full video library is available on Youtube.
